Nominations are open for another 30 hours! In the meantime, we had a few questions and clarifications.

There seem to be two different disambiguations at play here - which one is accurate/would you like us to use?

Fire & Blood - George R. R. Martin - This is linked to the A Song of Ice and Fire tag. Please let us know how it is distinct.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes - Suzanne Collins - This is linked to The Hunger Games tag. Please let us know how it is distinct.

魔道祖师 | Módào Zǔshī (Cartoon) - While this fandom in the Yuletide 2019 tagset, the fandom itself seems to be no longer eligible. Without clarification on how it is still eligible, we cannot add it or new characters to the tagset.

I nominated Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes on what I assume was the same basis as series like Trials of Apollo (related to Percy Jackson) and Fire and Blood (related to Martin's books but you're also querying) were both accepted into Yuletide 2019: distinct time period/plot and different characters.

Thank you for clarifying! Both of us were unfamiliar so needed to confirm that they are a distinct set of characters and time - the level of distinction is important so that we can try and be consistent in how we deal with these cases, especially in the case of overlap characters. We will approve this.

Not the nominator, but Fire and Blood is a purported history of House Targaryen up to a point about 125 years before the events of ASoIaF, so there is no character overlap.

(However, on the archive the canonical tag is folded into ASoIaF.)

I'm not the nominator for any of these, but I expect that for MDZS it was either a confusion of the eligibility rules--not understanding that new characters from currently-ineligible fandoms couldn't be added--or it may be possible that MDZS suffers from the problem of inappropriate fandom tagging, considering that if The Untamed (the live action adaptation from the source material which the MDZS cartoon is also adapted from) is eliminated from the search, the number of fics drops almost in half to 800-something.
Since I'm not in the fandom, though, I can't really comment further on that.

Thank you! The latter is actually what we were hoping for; if excluding a different adaptation makes a fandom eligible, that's what we needed to know, especially since we can see that they are separate entries in the Yuletide 2019 tagset.

Also not the nominator, but in the MDZS fandom, and honestly? We've got some fairly significant differences between the original novel and the cartoon and live action adaption, even apart from the Chinese censorship induced case of the canon m/m pairing being just friends. And there are significant differences between the two adaptions - the cartoon, to mention just one example of many, has undead monsters aplenty, while The Untamed has a complicated explanation for why there are absolutely no undead here. And still, people tag with two or all three.

As an experiment I just excluded both The Untamed and the novel and that leaves me with 175 works before even starting to look at stuff like length or language...

Thanks! The cartoon as a fandom and the new character tags have been added to the Juletide 2020 tagset. They are separate in the Yuletide 2019 tagset so we're happy to accept excluding the live action as eligibility for the cartoon. (would like to stress that the eligibility for Yuletide 2020 is a different beast entirely, however)
